Larson leads women in Fisherman’s Picnic Trail Run

There was wonderful weather for the Fisherman’s Picnic Trail Run on Saturday, August 3. The North Superior Ski and Run Club hosted another great event for the more than 100 runners and walkers who enjoyed the morning on the Pincushion Mountain Trails.

Lutsen native Ailee Larson, age 20, placed first in the women’s division and fifth overall in the Fisherman’s Picnic 5 mile trail race.

Larson’s winning time was 34:03. She averaged 6:48 per mile on the rugged trails located on Pincushion Mountain.

Local women in the women's top 10 included Jackie Nelson, 28, 4th in 39:26; Sharon Dorr, 41, 5th in 39:37; Audrey Summers, 17, in 41:07; and Maya McHugh, 13, 10th in 42:17.

Shane Steele of Decorah, Iowa, age 23, won the men’s race and was first across the line in 29:42.2 Top male finishers for Cook County were Joey Chemlik, 17, 4th place in 33:57, Jared Scheel, 31, 5th in 35:21; Sean MacDonell, 15, 7th in 36:03; and Victor Bohnen, 26, 9th in 36:13.

Nine other local women finished the women's race: Matea Acero, 15, 14th in 43:30; Morgan Weyrens- Welch, 15 in 15th, 45:04; Nancy Rova,Introducing49, 18th thein 46:12; MelanieredesignedStoddard,Outlander 15, 23rd in 49:28; Kelly Summers, When50, you29thhitinthe 51:19; Ann Hegg, 62, 39th 5 seconds behind Powers in 58:04.
